Custom Applications

Although SharePoint offers a great deal of functionality ‘straight from the box’, it is likely that to fully personalise its use for your organisation you may need additional help.
Here are some examples of where Ratio One can help:

  • Structure – although SharePoint has a straightforward structure – it easy to set a system up incorrectly right at the start. Initially you may want only key users to test the system and, as it rolls out, you find that user authorisation get more complicated and unwieldy.
Relying on only one user to authorise a mass of functionality means that when he is unavailable, work comes to a halt.
We can help set up the correct, flexible, but disciplined structure at the start of your project so the whole team knows exactly what to do in a given set of circumstances. The structure needs to reflect your organisation’s use of the system – from the beginning.
  • Viewing data – the ability to view data held on the organisation’s computer system needs careful management. Showing a user their past payslips on screen is, technically easy to achieve but showing the same information to other colleagues would be a major problem. We can help secure your data and make it available – from multiple databases – for all relevant staff.
  • Document management. If your organisation has a particular document lifecycle policy in place, then you may need extra help – or even a third party application such as Meridio. We have considerable experience with this sort of implementation – please check the case studies on the site.
  • Workflow. This area is covered elsewhere on this site and can range from simple authorisations to complex, ever-changing process flows. As with document management, our approach is to discuss your requirements in detail and only then suggest solutions. These may be based on standard SharePoint functionality or those provided by our partners in this area – K2.net.
  • Design and Graphics. Again, an area which can cause problems if your organisation does not have the internal resources to cope with it. You may want the pages you produce to reflect your corporate look and feel and yet allow some flexibility for your users to adopt a personal look to their sites. This is achieved using the templates built into SharePoint, but their use has be an integral part of the site structure. Please see example of our design work in the case studies section.

Ratio One has been in the business of adapting SharePoint to suit its customers since 2001, whether you want us to help with a few tweeks or a major SharePoint project; we can probably help.
